Belief is something we build and is shaped through experience, intention, and daily choices. Wishing the BRAVE Performance method are five key attributes in the development of belief, these being action, impact, zest for life, kindness and compassion and perseverance. These attributes work together to create a foundation of trust in ourselves towards our vision. When we lean into these qualities belief becomes clear in our minds and we can meet challenges with confidence and move forward with purpose.
Action
If you have a vision of your future self or the goal you want to achieve you must take action and get started. Taking action on your goals forms a vital step. By taking action we generate momentum and begin to form evidence of success. It can be as simple as small actions that get you started and done constantly build your belief that you can achieve success. At this point awareness is over rated, once you have developed a vision for what you want to achieve awareness is not enough. You must take action to build evidence which will compound into belief.
Impact
Impact is a powerful attribute because when you see the impact of your actions they create tangible evidence that your actions matter. When you see the impact of your actions on yourself and others it creates momentum which turbo charges your belief. When you start to see the fruits of your labour turn into results leading towards your goal your confidence grows and you feel ready to keep going. When we see consistent actions result in impactful results it’s like putting fuel on the fire of belief. When you take action, be open to seeing the impact of these actions.
Zest for Life
A zest for life fuels our belief by filling our journey with enthusiasm, positivity and a deeper appreciation for the experience itself. If we approach our work, training and challenges with a sense of curiosity and positivity we are more open to growth and unexpected opportunities. Zest for life doesn’t just mean being positive, it means showing up motivated and engaged in what you do. Within BRAVE it is closely aligned to energy and embracing a positive attitude even when things get hard. The passion and energy we bring generates and sustains belief and reinforces that the power a zest for life brings exists in the pursuit much more than the outcome.
Kindness and Compassion
Kindness and compassion are highly valuable for developing belief. Along the journey there will moments of doubt or failure. In these moments we need a safe internal space that allows kindness and self compassion to move forward. This self-compassion strengthens our ability to persevere, helping us believe that we are worthy and capable when progress is slow. Furthermore, when we show compassion to others we build trust and connection. This can reinforce the belief in both ourselves and others. On your journey to your version of high performance, a powerful reminder is that your journey will have peaks and valleys long the way and having kindness and compassion to yourself and others fuels a sustainable belief.
Perseverance
Perseverance serves as the quiet, steady force behind belief. Perseverance is the willingness to continue showing up, even when the path is uncertain or progress isn’t visible. The journey won’t be without struggle, perserveance is continuing despite the struggle. This is how perseverance and resilience (a pillar of the BRAVE method) intersect. Resilience is the ability you recover and rebound from setbacks, whereas perseverance is the ability to keep moving forward regardless. Together, they form a powerful partnership that have a great impact on belief. Every time you choose to endure, every time you stay the course when it would be easier to stop your belief grows. Keep going, keep persevering in the face of uncertainty.
Belief is built through the choices we make, the energy we bring and the way we respond to challenges. The five attributes of action, impact, zest for life, kindness and compassion, and perseverance are interconnected forces that reinforce each other and strengthen the foundation of belief.
